John Muir's Fountain Lake
Ever wonder where John Muir lived in his youth?
This lake, once called Fountain Lake, now called Ennis Lake, was on his family farm. Here he learned to swim and enjoy the Wisconsin wilderness.
Standing along the shoreline, we are looking somewhat northwest over Ennis Lake in late July, now within John Muir County Park, Montello, Wisconsin.
The Ice Age National Scenic Trail provides a circular path around the lake, an opportunity to “walk in the footsteps of John Muir”.
One can only imagine how often he had viewed the lake from this same location.
