Fine Art is like a Campfire, Rainbow, River & Song

Fine art photography is like a good song

It captures your imagination, pulls on your emotions, and takes you to a place in your mind you enjoy.

We all have our favorite play list of selected artists. And we play that list frequently.

Why?

For starters, the songs we’ve selected make us feel good. Each song, and perhaps specific lyrics, put us on an emotional “high”.

The music lifts our spirits, sparks our creativity, activates our imagination, and may even ignite a social conversation.

Fine art photography does the same!

We are each attracted to the music that “speaks to us”.

Viewing fine art photography is similar. Individual pieces either “speak to us”, or they do not.

I have witnessed many times in my booth where an individual will lock on to the abstract prints and forgo all others.

Likewise, the exact opposite has occurred. Abstracts become the last thing some would consider in their home.

And that’s perfectly OK.

The fine art print must connect with you first and foremost, regardless of its effect on any others.

It’s your home, your personality

Perhaps without realizing it, your home showcases your personality to your friends and family.

The furniture, the color scheme, and even the landscaping, the homeowner’s individuality is displayed.

And so it is with art

When you select a piece of artwork for your home, your selection unconsciously is an extension of your overall uniqueness.

You select the print because it “speaks to you”.

As such, you are willing to share this conversation with your friends.

Displayed prominently in your home, your new artwork adds the sunshine to each day.

It may rekindle warm memories of a favorite location.

And as it does, you notice your entire physiology is encapsulated in positivity.

Campfires, Rainbows and Rivers

The Oxford dictionary definition of fine art is:

“creative art, especially visual art whose products are to be appreciated primarily

or solely for their imaginative, aesthetic, or intellectual content:”

For me, definition of fine art includes a song, as well campfires, rainbows and rivers.

Imagine sitting around a campfire

What do you feel?

  • Are you enjoying the circle of friendship with those around you?

  • Have you noticed the conversations less superficial as each person studies the flickering flames of the campfire before them?

  • What was it about the campfire that “spoke to you”, and kept you engaged with the wavering light as it danced above the hot coals?

Visualize the distant rainbow

We’ve all experienced the reflection and refraction of an evening sunshine as it traverses through rain droplets following the rain.

Do you remember how you felt?

  • Excited to see the rainbow?

  • Thrilled to share it with others?

  • Intrigued by how nature creates this multi-hued arc across the evening sky?

Did you only look at it briefly, or study it at length as time permitted?

What was it about the rainbow that “spoke to you”?

Picture yourself on the bank of the river

As you stare down into the moving water, what do you observe?

What once was simply a river is now a flowing canvas, its artwork ever changing.

  • Are you now noticing the swirls that weren’t previously seen?

  • Has the reflection of the shoreline captivated you attention?

  • Have you noticed the river’s music?

Once again, what was it about the river that “spoke to you”, and held your attention?

The pulling effect

Each of the four, the song, the campfire, the rainbow, and the river all had that same effect

I call it the “pulling effect”

You become mesmerized by each.

The longer you study the scene before you, the more you play your favorite song, the more you see, and hear, and learn, and share!

The Allure of the Fine Art Print

The pulling effect that is exhibited with the song, campfire, rainbow and river, is equally witnessed in the fine art print.

Not all songs, rivers, campfires, or rainbows will elicit the same response with any one individual. The same is equally true of the fine art print.

You may look at ten different prints, and only one “speaks to you”.

And when it does, you’ll feel that same indescribable pulling effect - it’s riveting!

Emotional Connection

When you experience a fine art print, you’ll have that same emotional connection as John Muir had with his beloved mountains:

“The mountains are calling, and I must go”

You’ll feel as if you are there, in the scene, witnessing the whisper of the wind gently crease the calm lake surface.

  • “These photos (Dura Plaq prints) are very special to us and will forever be on the walls of our cedar cabin” (Collector)

  • “We just love our newly purchased “Golden Tamarack” photo. It captures the wonderful serenity of being out in the beautiful Wisconsin outdoors”. (Collector)

  • “Every day I get up and see the three beautiful prints lighting up my kitchen with color and scenic views.” (Collector)

Inspire Conversations

Each fine art print you display proudly within your home will naturally create a conversation with your friends.

They too, will look into the print, eventually feel as “if I’m there”.

Your Collection is Your Personality

The fine art prints you collect within your home will “speak to you” not because of some magical water cast over the print.

Rather, each will speak to you because the print aligns with your personality and the way you desire to display your personality.

And because it is your personality, you’ll be very proud of your ultimate collection.

You’ll be able to share the story behind the print.

You’ll feel very good when telling your friends of your interaction with the artist/photographer.

Emotional “High”

Each time you share these stories, you’ll be on an emotional “high”.

And in my mind, that’s the best definition of a fine art print!
