Display Angles

The First View

When I am laying out my print display in my booth for the upcoming art fair season, I consider each Dura Plaq print’s placement carefully.

As an individual walks past my booth, they’ll spend a few short seconds scanning into the display.

Will it capture their attention?

Placement Consideration

My booth is set up in a “3-wall U” shaped configuration – two side walls with one uninterrupted back wall. It has been this way since my first show.

However, I have changed the print display layout over time. While the display concept remains the same, the actual displayed prints change each year)

When I decide which prints to display and in what order, I always consider what the viewer will see first and last, as they scan my booth.

A Short Timeframe

As the visitor walks past, typically the first print they’ll see is the one closest to the front on their approaching opposite wall.

Scanning back across the wall, and then over the back wall, their eyes will come to rest on the last print on the furthest wall now behind them (as they walk past, or to their side if they are now looking directly into the booth).

This visual evaluation will occur in seconds, perhaps as long as a minute.

It’s much the way we may evaluate a book within the book store. Many to choose from. It’s the snippets we quickly read that grabs our attention.

Longer Evaluation

I’ll admit, my goal with the print placement is to entice the viewer to spend more time evaluating my prints.

Ideally, from this longer evaluation, they can then decide what they view fits their home or office decor plans.

Are They Pulled In?

My chair is almost always placed in the front right corner (looking into the booth).

From this location, I can easily engage a brief conversation with most people as they walk by. To those who stop in stride, and hold their visual perusal, I ask “Which print is pulling you in?”

After they share with me the one (or more) that captures their attention, I’ll then suggest a closer look, which most often they will do.

The Attractive Display Layout

The careful consideration of each print’s placement is an open invitation to allow further exploration.

From this juncture, the visitors often study the displayed Dura Plaq prints further, followed with review of the matted prints.

Display Angles

When considering where to place your products for display in your booth, consider how the customer will view your booth.

Not everyone will do so from the same direction. That’s where the planning comes in.

I never would have guessed I’d put so much thought into a 10×10 space!

With your own display, have fun determining, evaluating, and reconsidering, your own display angles for your great works of art.
