Seeds in the Wind

Seeds of the Future

In the Kathy Mattea song "Gone, Gonna Rise Again", (written by Si Kahn), she sings of the selfless act of the grandfather planting apple seeds before he died.

"I guess he knew that he'd never see,

The red fruit hanging from the tree

But he planted the seeds for his children and me"

This image brings that particular verse to mind.

In the Wind

The milkweed itself, will never see the results of the sown seeds, will never see a caterpillar eating on one of its "off-springs" leaves, will never see the resulting monarch springing free of the chrysalis.

Yet, with the optimism of the western sunstar, the pods break open.

Creating a New Future

Working in concert with the wind, their seeds are released to create a new future.

"We do not inherit this earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children." (Native American saying)

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

"If you do what you can do,

and I do what I can do,

together, we can make a difference.”
