Buffalo herd in the field at Custer State Park, South Dakota

A Valuable Lesson

Prairies Filled with Buffalo

Imagine what a sight it must have been to see the Great Plains filled with an ambling massive herd of buffalo, farther than the eye can see.

In my humble opinion, I think "Dances with Wolves" (movie) portrayed both the importance of the buffalo as a resource to the plains tribes, as well the devastating impact of this species slaughter by the buffalo hunters and others.

Fortunate to Still See Them

How fortunate we are to see these huge animals once again roam free, albeit in protected areas (Custer State Park, Yellowstone Natl Park, etc).

Not-withstanding how the buffalo almost became extinct, we can learn a valuable lesson about the use of natural resources, and their eventual scarcity from overuse without regeneration.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

and I do what I can do,

together, we can make a difference.”
