What could be the difference?
When visiting an art fair, or viewing a photographer’s on-line portfolio and gallery you may notice a price differential between two or more photographers.
Not-withstanding the image itself, you may be wondering “what is the difference”.
There will definitely be a difference
In any form, art is the expression of the artist. Art is not a commodity.
By its very nature, immediate differences exist between each artist.
The Powder Hill Photography difference
With my own photographic fine art, there are six differentials – beyond the image itself – that separates my artwork from that of others.
A short summary of each is provided below. Click the link to read the full article.
The Six Differentials
1) Artistic Vision –
As an artist, I’m free to create the image that I envision. As such it is important to create the image I envision when depressing the shutter. Part of this includes making all the decisions, from capture settings through to the final print.
Though I may remove a small element to improve the image, I do not add things that didn’t exist in the original scene. If something wasn’t there when I snapped the shutter, it isn’t going to be in the final image.
I always view creating the best image in the field (via lens selection, composition, etc.) the first criteria for a successful print. Post processing only amplifies the visualized image that I had initially created. The final print, which I print myself, allows for this ultimate expression of my initial visualization.
2) Natural Colors –
To me, color management is as important to my work flow as tuned instrument is to the professional performer.
To ensure I’m viewing the most accurate colors, I use a calibration system. This system effectively creates a reference point for all colors displayed on my monitor. Every two weeks, it is re-calibrated (through the use of software) to that reference point.
Once calibrated and a printer profile created, I can produce consistent high quality, natural color prints.
As an artist, selecting the type of paper to use is equivalent to the musicians selecting the strings on their guitar. The lighting, the sound system, the microphones, speakers, the stage setting, and even the guitar might be of the highest quality. It is the selection of the strings that is yet another element that fuses the performance.
Put “tinny-sounding” strings on a great guitar, the performer is no longer proud of the outcome.
Print the great image on paper that doesn’t provide the desired effect, and the artist is no longer proud of the work.
Both might get by, but neither is of the quality that the performer (or photographer) personally find acceptable.
Having standardized on Breathing Color Pura Smooth (since 2013) and combined with my Epson 7900 printer, my prints are now delivered with the colors as natural as I envision, with the detail and resolution I demand.
4) Personally signed –
When you purchase a fine art landscape print, my personal and individually hand-signed signature will be on the lower right corner on the print.
My personally signed signature on your print, is your “certificate of authenticity”.
It is evidence that your print meets my high quality standards.
While I enjoy watching wildlife, including the deer, turkeys and many song birds right out my office window, I am not captivated by wildlife from a photographic pursuit.
Rather, what captivates my attention are the landscapes of this earth and the natural beauty that lives upon it. My tag line sums this up quite accurately, ” Fine Art Landscape Photography”.
When I set out on each photographic endeavor, the goal is to capture the landscape as I see it, as I hear it. What is the story that it is telling me.
The few animal images I do capture are a result not of any particular skill I possess. Rather, the wildlife pretty much wandered into an area I was photographing.
I am uncompromising in my quest to provide you with the highest quality, natural color nature fine art landscape photography prints. My signature on your fine art print indicates your print meets and exceeds these quality standards.
All fine art prints are backed with my “Complete Customer Satisfaction” guarantee, no-hassle 30-day return policy.
In the rare event, and for-whatever-reason, you are not completely satisfied with your Powder Hill Photography print, return it within thirty (30) calendar days from date of purchase (or delivery for ordered prints) for a full refund less shipping charges.
I’ve had more than one person question why I would do offer this return policy. Quite simply, my goal is is that you are more than satisfied with your selected print and proud to have my fine art landscape photography decorating your home or office environment.
