Just south of the Interstate in west-central South Dakota lies the Badlands National Park. There is a 30 mile loop road that takes you through the park, then returns back to the interstate down the road.
Although it is only 30 miles, there are many parking locations and pull-outs along the way to stop and take in the amazing landscapes of this area. A number of times this 30 mile stretch can take me three hours or more – and it has nothing to do with traffic. There is just simply that much to see and photograh.
Different times of the day, and different seasons bring out aspects that may have been missed on previous trips.
After driving the road in one direction, on your return visit, start from the opposite side. A whole new perspective opens before you.
